Marth Enters The Frey

Today we didn't have any lessons. Just practising the wave dash in actual matches. My friend David joined the training team, maining Marth. He may come to BAM also, depending on his plans for that few days. David and I have a rivalry that will burn brightly and spur us on in the lead up to BAM. I hate losing so If I lose against David it will motivate me to get better and vice versa. I know there will be players that I will not even get close to beating at BAM but hell, no one ever wins if they don't try.

(Disclaimer; I'm not expecting to win, just a saying, it'd be nice though. lol)

Dashing With The Waves

Last night I decided that I consciously wanted to get way better at smash. Marc and I decided that until BAM2K11 we would practice heaps and Marc would actually teach me things that I NEED to know to do well in competitive play.

Last nights lesson was how to wave dash consistently and how to combo out of a wave dash. For example; Down Smashing out of wave dash but timing it to the perfect frame. For those who don't know wave dashing is one of the things I will NEED If I'm going to eventually get really good with Luigi.

How do I do it? X or Y to jump, followed instantly by L or R (I prefer R) and diagonally down on the control stick, to do the air dodge into the ground.

What does it do? Wave dashing is a great way to approach. You move more quickly than just running towards the opponent and it covers ground faster.

Disadvantages? You can get caught in the start up lag of the Wave Dash where you can be punished. If it gets too predictable you can be punished regardless of if you pull off the Wave Dash or not.

Practical Application? You can use Wave Dashing for all the stuff I mentioned earlier as well as edge hogging (grabbing the ledge to prevent the opponent from grabbing it while recovering).

Every Champion Was Once A Nobody

So BAM2K11 (A Major Aussie Smash Tourney) is coming up and I decided I'm going to go with two of my best friends; Marc (Blackshadow) and Eric (Monkey-bear). It is the first Tourney I've been involved in and I'm pumped. There's only one problem; My current Melee skills are not enough to brave the deeps of the competitive scene.

So with the aid of BlackShadow, MonkeyBear (when he's in Town) and this Blog I aim to better myself until BAM begins and after BAM is over regardless of its outcome. This means intensive Melee training and at least 5000 hand exercises a day. Why does the blog help? Well I find that I remember things better when I write them down and hey, maybe there's someone out there that will benefit from the writings also.

Welcome kind readers

WELCOME TO LUIGI'S ASCENSION TO VICTORY!
